About the position

As a Data Engineer at BlueForge Alliance, you will play a pivotal role in developing, maintaining, and optimizing our data infrastructure to support our mission-driven initiatives. In this exempt role, you will perform essential functions that include designing, developing, and maintaining scalable data pipelines and ETL processes to ingest, process, and analyze large volumes of both structured and unstructured data. Collaboration is key in this role, as you will work closely with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements and design solutions that meet business needs. You will also be responsible for optimizing data workflows and performance to ensure timely and efficient data delivery for analytics and reporting purposes. Implementing data quality and validation procedures will be crucial to ensure the accuracy, completeness, and reliability of data. Staying current with emerging technologies and best practices in data engineering will be part of your responsibilities, as will providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members, promoting knowledge sharing and collaboration within the team. The position offers flexibility, as it can be performed onsite, remotely, or in a hybrid format.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines and ETL processes to ingest, process, and analyze large volumes of structured and unstructured data.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements and design solutions that meet business needs.
  • Optimize data workflows and performance to ensure timely and efficient data delivery for analytics and reporting purposes.
  • Implement data quality and validation procedures to ensure the accuracy, completeness, and reliability of data.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and best practices in data engineering and apply them to improve our data infrastructure.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members, promoting knowledge sharing and collaboration within the team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of post-degree experience, or comparable combined education and experience, in data engineering or a related role, preferably in a non-profit or government contracting environment.
  • Knowledge of data modeling, schema design, and database optimization techniques.
  • Experience with data processing programming languages such as Python, Java, or other similar frameworks.
  • Familiarity with SQL and experience working with relational and NoSQL databases.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with cloud platforms such as Palantir, AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
  • Proficient with software development tools such as Postman, Visual Studio.
  • Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau, PowerBI.
