About the position

The Data Engineering Manager plays a crucial role in setting organizational goals and fostering a culture of innovation within a team of engineers and data scientists. This position serves as a bridge between strategic management and technical staff, collaborating closely with senior management to develop team goals and implement new strategies that align with business needs. The manager is responsible for overseeing the design of robust, reusable, and scalable data-driven solutions and data pipeline frameworks that automate the ingestion, processing, and delivery of both structured and unstructured batch and real-time streaming data. This role drives technical delivery and works with the team on strategy and execution, ensuring that the development of data delivery services supports critical operational processes, analytical models, and machine learning applications. In addition to technical oversight, the Data Engineering Manager is tasked with understanding and implementing best practices in the management of enterprise data, which includes master data, reference data, metadata, data quality, and lineage. The manager is also responsible for developing a data culture within the organization and finding innovative approaches to train the data team. Collaboration is key, as the manager will work with other technology teams, data scientists, analytics teams, and business product owners in an agile environment. Furthermore, the role includes managing the selection and integration of data-related tools, frameworks, and applications necessary to expand the platform's capabilities. The manager will oversee the maintenance of automated processes, focusing on data flow and error recovery, while providing support during the technical project life cycle to ensure that targets are achieved in a timely manner. Staying up-to-date on data industry innovations and trends is essential for this role, as it allows the manager to lead the team effectively and adapt to the evolving landscape of data engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the design of robust, reusable, and scalable data-driven solutions and data pipeline frameworks.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field, or an additional 4 years of relevant work experience in lieu of a Bachelor's degree.
  • 5 years of related professional experience.
  • 1 year of supervisory or demonstrated progressive leadership experience.
  • Knowledge of budget control methods, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge and understanding of machine learning techniques and natural language processing (NLP).
  • Proficient in programming languages such as Python, R, Ruby, and Java.
  • Proficient in big data tools and technologies such as Hadoop, MapReduce, and/or Hive.

Nice-to-haves

  • Data Management/Certified Analytics Professional (CAP) upon hire preferred.
  • Ability to interpret and relate the business strategy and vision to the data team.
  • Skilled in communicating to others to convey information effectively.
  • Ability to create and present presentations.
  • Skill in communication via the written word.
