About the position

The Data Engineering Manager for Transportation Analytics at Nordstrom is responsible for leading a team to execute strategies that deliver valuable insights to data users. This role involves collaboration with various stakeholders to ensure the effective ingestion, organization, and analysis of data, while fostering a positive team culture and maintaining high standards of data quality and governance.

Responsibilities

• End-to-end delivery of insights to data users from data ingestion to analysis and presentation.
• Develop and foster a collaborative team culture that aligns with industry best practices and Nordstrom values.
• Grow and develop a talented team of engineers with high expectations for individual ownership and impact.
• Influence key decisions on architecture and implementation of scalable and reliable engineering solutions.
• Ensure data quality and governance across projects.
• Push the limits on solution design and system operations to enhance customer experiences.

Requirements

• B.S. or M.S. degree in Computer Science or comparable experience.
• 5+ years of relevant work experience and 2+ years leading teams.
• Experience owning and operating business-critical systems for internal and external customers.
• Deep experience in development, comfortable working in code, and skilled at advocating for new technologies.
• Strong care for team members and a desire to help them grow.
• Ability to prioritize and simplify tasks to achieve results.
• Proactive mindset with a focus on finding the best solutions for the company and customers.
• Capability to listen to customers and partners, internalize their needs, and develop elegant solutions.

• Experience with machine learning and data science concepts.
• Familiarity with AWS/GCP, Kafka, Java, Spark, Kubernetes, Python, Avro, data modeling, and SQL.
