About the position

The Data Engineering Manager at PepsiCo is responsible for overseeing the development and operations of data products, driving a vision for data engineering to positively impact the business. This role involves leading a team of data engineers to build data pipelines, manage data quality, and support analytics and product development efforts. The manager will work closely with various stakeholders to ensure effective data integration and accessibility, while also being hands-on in coding and mentoring team members.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee PepsiCo's data product build and operations as a key technical expert.
  • Lead a team of data engineers in building data pipelines and managing data on the PepsiCo Data Lake.
  • Collaborate with process owners and business users to develop large and complex data applications in cloud environments.
  • Provide leadership and management to the data engineering team, including hands-on coding and mentoring.
  • Act as a subject matter expert across different digital projects.
  • Manage and scale data pipelines from internal and external sources to support new product launches.
  • Build and own automation and monitoring frameworks for data pipeline quality and performance.
  • Implement best practices around systems integration, security, performance, and data management.
  • Empower the business through increased adoption of data and business intelligence.
  • Collaborate with internal clients to drive solution discussions and POCs.
  • Evolve the architectural capabilities of the data platform in collaboration with enterprise architects.
  • Develop and optimize procedures to productionalize data science models.
  • Define and manage SLAs for data products and processes in production.
  • Support large-scale experimentation by data scientists.
  • Prototype new approaches and build scalable solutions.
  • Create documentation for learnings and knowledge transfer.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of overall technology experience, including 6+ years in hands-on data engineering.
  • 6+ years of experience with Data Lake Infrastructure, Data Warehousing, and Data Analytics tools.
  • 6+ years of experience in SQL optimization and performance tuning, with development experience in Python and PySpark.
  • 4+ years of cloud data engineering experience in Azure.
  • Experience with Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, and Azure Machine Learning tools.
  • Fluent with Azure cloud services; Azure Certification is a plus.
  • Experience scaling and managing a team of engineers.
  • Experience integrating multi-cloud services with on-premises technologies.
  • Experience with data modeling, data warehousing, and building high-volume ETL/ELT pipelines.
  • Experience with data profiling and data quality tools like Apache Griffin, Deequ, and Great Expectations.
  • Experience building and operating highly available, distributed systems for data processing.
  • Experience with at least one MPP database technology such as Redshift, Synapse, or SnowFlake.
  • Experience with running and scaling applications on cloud infrastructure and containerized services like Kubernetes.
  • Experience with version control systems like GitHub and CI deployment tools.
  • Experience with Statistical/ML techniques is a plus.
  • Experience in retail or supply chain solutions is a plus.
  • Understanding of metadata management, data lineage, and data glossaries is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of agile development, including DevOps and DataOps concepts.
  • Familiarity with business intelligence tools like PowerBI.
