About the position

Vaco is seeking a Data Engineering Manager to lead the development of a robust data engineering team for a global client. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for the design, development, and implementation of data solutions that empower the organization to extract actionable insights from complex datasets. You will collaborate closely with a team of data engineers and cross-functional teams to enhance our data infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and analytics capabilities. Your expertise in the Azure ecosystem, along with hands-on experience in tools such as Azure Data Factory (ADF), Databricks, Airflow, SQL, Python, and Spark, will be crucial in driving the success of our data initiatives. As a Data Engineering Manager, you will lead the charge in building a world-class data group by mentoring and guiding a team of Senior Data Engineers. Your role will involve not only technical leadership but also fostering a collaborative environment where innovative data solutions can thrive. You will be expected to implement best practices in data management, ensure the integrity and security of data, and drive the adoption of modern data engineering methodologies. This position is ideal for someone with a strong background in data engineering and a passion for leading teams to achieve excellence in data-driven decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • Spearhead the design, development, and implementation of data solutions.
  • Lead a team of data engineers and foster collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Enhance data infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and analytics capabilities.
  • Design and build data pipelines, ETL processes, and data warehouses.
  • Implement CI/CD pipelines for automating build, test, and deployment processes.
  • Drive consensus on technical decisions and ensure best practices in data management.
  • Mentor and guide Senior Data Engineers in their professional development.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of experience in data engineering with expertise in designing and building data pipelines, ETL processes, and data warehouses.
  • 2+ years of experience in a Team Lead or Manager role.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL, Python, and Spark programming languages.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP is a must.
  • Hands-on experience with big data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, and distributed computing frameworks.
  • Knowledge of data lake and data warehouse solutions, including Databricks, Azure Data Factory, and Airflow.
  • Solid understanding of data modeling concepts, data warehousing architectures, and data management best practices.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field.

Nice-to-haves

  • Recent hands-on experience with Azure tech stack (not more than 3 years old).
  • Experience in the retail domain data.
  • Prior experience working with offshore teams (India, Europe, etc).
