About the position

The Data Engineering Team Manager at Honda is responsible for leading and managing a team of data engineers to design, develop, maintain, and support the organization's data pipelines. This includes selecting and operationalizing data engineering tools, defining standards, and ensuring data integrity, security, and quality are maintained. In addition to team leadership, the Data Engineering Team Manager will adhere to data governance and data catalog policies, collaborating with governance teams to define data standards, classification, retention, and lifecycle management. The role also involves designing and implementing data integration processes to ensure seamless data flow and interoperability between systems, working closely with application developers and infrastructure teams. The manager will ensure compliance with data security and privacy regulations, protecting sensitive data from unauthorized access or breaches. Collaboration with business analysts and data scientists is essential to define data requirements for analytics and reporting purposes. The manager will support the development and maintenance of data analytics platforms, data warehouses, and reporting solutions. Engaging with business stakeholders, including executives and end-users, to understand their data needs and provide strategic recommendations is also a key responsibility. The role includes vendor management, evaluating and selecting third-party vendors for data-related products or services, and managing relationships and contracts to ensure successful delivery. Continuous improvement is a focus, with the manager expected to stay updated on emerging data management trends and technologies, identifying opportunities for process improvement and optimization within the data engineering team. Fostering a culture of collaboration, knowledge sharing, and effective communication is vital, with regular team meetings, workshops, and training sessions to enhance technical skills and foster innovation.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • An undergraduate or graduate level degree in computer science, data sciences, information systems, or a similar field.
  • 8 or more years of hands-on experience with data engineering, data architecture, and large-scale data modeling.
  • At least 3 years of experience leading teams in data engineering, data science, or business intelligence.
  • Strong understanding of relational data structures, theories, and principles.
  • Experience with database platforms such as DB2, MS SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Couchbase, and MongoDB.
  • Knowledge of cloud-based technologies and data management practices.
  • Strong oral and verbal communication/presentation skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certifications in Data engineering, analytics, data science, and Business Intelligence tools and technologies.
  • Knowledge of project management, budgeting, financial management, and vendor management.
  • Experience with programming languages like Python, Java, or Scala.
  • Working knowledge of Informatica products and Big Data platforms.
