About the position

This position is within the Office of Outdoor Recreation - Office of Strategy and Planning under the Bureau of Conservation, responsible for managing the Bureau of Parks & Conservation's geographic information system (GIS). The role involves producing maps and other deliverables, contributing to GIS projects, and collaborating with various operational staff and divisions. The position primarily operates in a remote environment with potential monthly meetings in Nashville, Tennessee, and requires periodic fieldwork across the state.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the Bureau of Parks & Conservation's geographic information system (GIS).
  • Produce maps and other deliverables as requested.
  • Contribute to GIS projects, including building custom GIS tools and solutions.
  • Apply spatial analysis techniques.
  • Collaborate with Tennessee State Parks operational staff and other divisions within the Bureau.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Geography, Earth Science, Data Science, or a related field.
  • 2 years of relevant work experience in GIS or related fields.
  • Proficiency with Esri software, including ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online.
  • Proficiency in creating, editing, managing, and publishing GIS feature data.
  • Proficiency in cartographic design.
  • Working knowledge of geospatial analysis methods and ESRI GIS applications development.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, especially Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Nice-to-haves

  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and Avenza MAPublisher.
  • Working knowledge of Arcade and/or JavaScript programming for GIS applications and API integration.
