About the position

The Data Fusion and Tracking Engineer - Robotic Systems at Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) is responsible for developing and integrating advanced machine perception technologies for autonomous robotic systems. This role involves software engineering for sensor modalities on uncrewed platforms, focusing on target detection, localization, and tracking. The engineer will engage in all phases of technology innovation, from research to field testing, while collaborating with diverse teams to create full autonomy solutions for the Navy's unmanned fleet.

Responsibilities

• Perform software engineering for multiple sensor modalities on uncrewed platforms with an emphasis on target detection, localization, and tracking.
• Engage in all stages of technology innovation from initial research through software development to system integration and field testing.
• Collaborate with diverse teams to build full autonomy solutions that span control, perception, planning, and operator interfaces.

Requirements

• B.S. in Robotic Systems, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 3+ years of relevant experience in software engineering with C or C++ and technologies relevant to target tracking or state estimation.
• Effective communication skills with all levels of staff and clients.
• Ability to obtain Interim Secret level security clearance by start date and ultimately obtain Secret level clearance.

Nice-to-haves

• M.S. in Robotic Systems, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Practical experience with target tracking, data fusion, or state estimation algorithms.
• Experience working within large software teams to develop deployed solutions.
