About the position

The Data Governance Analyst 1 will serve as the primary compliance contact for the implementation and oversight of Microsoft Purview, a data governance tool. This role involves managing various data types across Microsoft 365 applications and other data sources, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and enhancing data management capabilities within the agency. The analyst will also be responsible for eDiscovery, data cataloging, classification, lineage, insights, and compliance, while collaborating with various departments to support public health data initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary compliance contact for Microsoft Purview implementation and oversight.
• Implement and oversee eDiscovery processes for document searches.
• Organize and index data assets for easy discovery and understanding.
• Apply labels and tags to data based on sensitivity and regulatory requirements.
• Track the origins, movements, and transformations of data throughout its lifecycle.
• Provide analytical capabilities to derive insights and enhance decision-making.
• Ensure data usage complies with regulatory standards and internal policies.
• Coordinate with departments to retrieve requested data and compile documents for disclosure.
• Communicate with requesters to clarify requests and provide updates on processing status.
• Collaborate with the Director of Data Governance to develop and revise data management policies and guidelines.
• Monitor and interpret federal and state data protection laws and regulations.
• Develop training materials and conduct sessions on data governance policies and procedures.
• Collaborate in developing data management applications and systems for public health purposes.
• Assist with cataloging and organization of agency data resources for a public-facing data catalog.
• Support the selection and implementation of processes for managing external data requests.
• Maintain effective communication with agency staff to support project goals and deadlines.

Requirements

• Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams) and Adobe.
• Experience in utilizing Microsoft Purview to implement and manage data governance frameworks.
• Experience conducting eDiscovery Premium searches.

Nice-to-haves

• Working knowledge of laws, regulations, and standards governing the management of sensitive data (e.g., HIPAA, HITECH, NIST Standards).
