About the position

The Data Governance Analyst will serve as the primary compliance contact for the implementation and oversight of the agency's Microsoft Purview application, a data governance tool. This role involves managing various data types across Microsoft 365 applications and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. The analyst will be responsible for eDiscovery, data cataloging, classification, lineage, insights, and compliance, while also coordinating data retrieval and public records requests. The position requires collaboration with the Director of Data Governance to develop policies and improve data management capabilities for public health purposes.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary compliance contact for Microsoft Purview implementation and oversight.
  • Implement and oversee eDiscovery processes for document searches.
  • Organize and index data assets for easy discovery and understanding.
  • Apply labels and tags to data based on sensitivity and regulatory requirements.
  • Track the origins, movements, and transformations of data throughout its lifecycle.
  • Provide analytical capabilities to derive insights and enhance decision making.
  • Ensure data usage complies with regulatory standards and internal policies.
  • Coordinate with departments to retrieve requested data and compile documents for disclosure.
  • Communicate with requesters to clarify requests and provide updates on processing status.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Data Governance to develop and revise policies and SOPs related to data management.
  • Monitor and interpret federal and state data protection laws and regulations.
  • Develop training materials and conduct sessions on data governance policies and procedures.
  • Support the agency in projects funded under the CDC Public Health Infrastructure Grant.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams) and Adobe.
  • Experience in utilizing Microsoft Purview for data governance frameworks.
  • Experience conducting eDiscovery Premium searches.
  • Data governance and/or data management experience.
  • Records management experience.
  • Extensive experience with Windows and Microsoft 365.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Working knowledge of laws, regulations, and standards governing the management of sensitive data (e.g., HIPAA, HITECH, NIST Standards).
