About the position

The Data Governance Analyst at Dartmouth College plays a crucial role in operationalizing and advancing the institution's data governance objectives. This position is designed for individuals who possess a strong understanding of project management practices and are focused on continuous improvement. The Data Governance Analyst will develop processes to execute data governance objectives and identify further opportunities to enhance institutional data governance and data quality. Reporting to the Associate Provost for Institutional Research, the analyst will collaborate with Information Technology and Consulting, as well as other campus constituents, to achieve institutional goals. In this role, the Data Governance Analyst will be responsible for operationalizing data governance standards, usage, and requirements with clients and stakeholders. This includes developing and implementing project plans, timelines, and deliverables to ensure successful execution of institutional-level projects in alignment with objectives. The analyst will also collaborate with data governance leadership to enhance policies, frameworks, and strategies, while establishing mechanisms to track the impact of data governance programs and identifying areas for improvement. Engaging with external partners, vendors, and industry experts will be essential to stay informed about emerging trends and practices in data governance. Additionally, the Data Governance Analyst will manage data governance-related systems, including reviewing new features and upgrades, advising on their implementation, and configuring access control for systems. The role also involves collaboration and relationship management, where the analyst will work with internal and external teams to share information, build relationships, and achieve shared goals. Training and development are also key components of this position, as the analyst will train and mentor colleagues in data governance and develop training programs to educate stakeholders on best practices.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Familiarity with project management tools and techniques.
  • Three years of relevant work experience in a technical or functional role working with data.
  • Experience in and functional understanding of complex data environments.
  • Familiarity with defining and tracking performance indicators.
  • Ability to develop methods of implementing institutional initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate, lead, and influence within and across teams.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience providing training and support.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop skills and competencies.
