About the position

The Data Governance Analyst position is a hybrid role based in Jackson, MS, focusing on the implementation and oversight of Microsoft Purview for data governance. The analyst will be responsible for ensuring compliance with data regulations, managing data assets, and supporting public health data initiatives. This role requires collaboration with various departments to enhance data management capabilities and ensure adherence to federal and state laws.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary compliance contact for the implementation and oversight of Microsoft Purview.
  • Implement and oversee electronic searches for documents through eDiscovery platforms.
  • Organize and index data assets for easy discovery and understanding.
  • Apply labels and tags to data based on sensitivity and regulatory requirements.
  • Track the origins, movements, and transformations of data throughout its lifecycle.
  • Provide analytical capabilities to derive insights and enhance decision-making.
  • Ensure data usage complies with regulatory standards and internal policies.
  • Coordinate with relevant departments to retrieve requested data and compile necessary documents for disclosure.
  • Communicate with requesters to clarify requests and provide updates on processing status.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Data Governance to develop and revise policies and guidelines related to data management and governance.
  • Monitor and interpret federal and state data protection laws and regulations.
  • Develop training materials and conduct sessions to educate agency staff on data governance policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate in developing and designing data management applications and systems to improve data capabilities for public health purposes.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams) and Adobe.
  • Experience in the utilization of Microsoft Purview to implement and manage data governance frameworks.
  • 5 years of experience in data governance.
  • 5 years of experience with HIPAA regulations.
  • 3 years of experience with Microsoft Purview.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous supervisory experience.
  • WebLogic experience helpful.
  • Working knowledge of laws, regulations, and standards governing the management of sensitive data (e.g., HIPAA, HITECH, NIST Standards).
