About the position

The Data Governance Analyst will play a crucial role in processing data and public records requests, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and agency policies. This position involves receiving and logging incoming requests from non-media parties, ensuring that all requests are properly documented and tracked for timely processing. The analyst will assist in the legal review of requested documents, determining necessary redactions to protect sensitive information before release as public records. This includes ensuring compliance with legal requirements and agency policies regarding public records disclosures. In addition to handling requests, the analyst will coordinate with relevant departments to retrieve requested data and compile necessary documents for disclosure. It is essential that the information provided in response to requests is complete and accurate. The analyst will prepare responses in accordance with established timelines and legal requirements, drafting correspondence and documentation to ensure clarity and completeness in responses. Communication with requesters is vital, as the analyst will need to clarify requests, provide updates on processing status, and coordinate the delivery of requested information while maintaining records of communications and actions taken related to each request. The role also includes oversight of the agency's Microsoft Purview application, a data governance tool that helps organizations manage and govern their data across various sources. The analyst will be responsible for cataloging data assets, applying labels and tags based on sensitivity and regulatory requirements, tracking the origins and transformations of data, and providing analytical capabilities to derive insights. Ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and internal policies is a key responsibility. Collaboration with the Director of Data Governance is essential for developing and revising policies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and guidelines related to data management and governance. The analyst will monitor and interpret federal and state data protection laws, develop training materials, and conduct sessions to educate agency staff on data governance policies and regulatory requirements. The goal is to foster a culture of compliance and data stewardship across the organization. Furthermore, the analyst will assist in the development and design of data management applications and systems, aiming to improve the agency's data capabilities for public health purposes. This includes supporting projects funded under the CDC Public Health Infrastructure Grant (PHIG), such as cataloging agency data resources and implementing updated processes for managing external requests for data and public records. The analyst will also be involved in collecting, organizing, and leveraging large amounts of data across multiple subject matters to enable more accessible utilization and analysis of the data using data lakes, warehouses, and catalogs.
