About the position

The Data Governance Analyst will serve as the primary compliance contact for the implementation and oversight of the Microsoft Purview application within the State of Mississippi's public health agency. This role focuses on managing and governing data across various sources, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and enhancing data capabilities for public health purposes. The analyst will be responsible for data cataloging, classification, lineage tracking, and providing insights to support decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary compliance contact for the implementation and oversight of Microsoft Purview.
  • Implement and oversee eDiscovery processes for document searches.
  • Organize and index data assets for easy discovery and understanding.
  • Apply labels and tags to data based on sensitivity and regulatory requirements.
  • Track the origins, movements, and transformations of data throughout its lifecycle.
  • Provide analytical capabilities to derive insights and enhance decision-making.
  • Ensure data usage complies with regulatory standards and internal policies.
  • Coordinate with departments to retrieve requested data and compile documents for disclosure.
  • Communicate with requesters to clarify requests and provide updates on processing status.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Data Governance to develop and revise policies and SOPs related to data management.
  • Monitor and interpret federal and state data protection laws and regulations.
  • Develop training materials and conduct sessions on data governance policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate in developing and designing data management applications and systems.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams) and Adobe.
  • Experience in utilizing Microsoft Purview for data governance frameworks.
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations governing sensitive data management (e.g., HIPAA, HITECH, NIST Standards).

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with data lakes, warehouses, and lakehouses.
  • Familiarity with public health data management and governance.
