About the position

The Institutional Data Analytics + Assessment office at Purdue University is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Data Governance Analyst to join our data governance team. This position is integral to managing data policies, processes, and documentation, and will work closely with the Institutional Data Governance Program Lead. The Data Governance Analyst will have the opportunity to collaborate with various departments across Purdue University, contributing to a range of enterprise data projects. This role is designed for individuals who thrive in a collaborative environment and are passionate about data governance and policy compliance. In this role, the Data Governance Analyst will be responsible for developing comprehensive training materials related to data policies, best practices, and university data projects and initiatives. The analyst will also create and maintain clear, accessible documentation on data governance processes, standards, and guidelines, including the work of the Executive Data Council and its subcommittees. Participation in data governance committees and working groups is expected, as well as collaboration with technical leads to align data objectives and foster a cohesive data strategy. The analyst will assist in writing and maintaining metadata definitions and specifications for university data assets, maintain an inventory of university data systems, and document system architecture, data flows, and data lineage. Staying informed about relevant policies, regulations, and industry best practices such as FERPA, GLBA, and HIPAA is crucial. The analyst will collaborate with legal counsel and data stewards to ensure that data governance practices align with federal policies and regulations, advise stakeholders on policy implications, and assist in implementing necessary changes. Additionally, tracking and managing data sharing agreements with office partners and ensuring compliance with privacy requirements in data sharing agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) will be key responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Advise stakeholders on policy implications and assist in implementing necessary changes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 2-3 years of experience in a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability working with cross-organizational leadership.
  • Project management experience including planning, execution, and tracking.
  • Experience working with data governance and organizational policy.
  • Experience working in a university setting.
  • Familiarity with federal and state regulations (i.e. FERPA, GLBA, HIPAA).
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both collaboratively and independently.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to simplify complex concepts and deliver effective messages to a variety of data users.
  • Experience writing documentation and procedures addressing user needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with databases and data cataloguing tools.
