About the position

The Data Governance Analyst will serve as the primary compliance contact for the implementation and oversight of the agency's Microsoft Purview application, a data governance tool that helps organizations manage and govern their data across various sources. This role involves ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, managing data requests, and developing policies related to data management and governance, particularly in the context of public health data.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary compliance contact for the implementation and oversight of Microsoft Purview.
  • Implement and oversee eDiscovery processes for document searches.
  • Organize and index data assets for easy discovery and understanding.
  • Apply labels and tags to data based on sensitivity and regulatory requirements.
  • Track the origins, movements, and transformations of data throughout its lifecycle.
  • Provide analytical capabilities to derive insights and enhance decision-making.
  • Ensure data usage complies with regulatory standards and internal policies.
  • Coordinate with departments to retrieve requested data and compile documents for disclosure.
  • Communicate with requesters to clarify requests and provide updates on processing status.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Data Governance to develop and revise policies and guidelines related to data management.
  • Monitor and interpret federal and state data protection laws and regulations.
  • Develop training materials and conduct sessions to educate staff on data governance policies.
  • Collaborate in developing and designing data management applications and systems.

Requirements

  • Experience with Microsoft Purview or similar data governance tools.
  • Knowledge of data management practices and compliance standards.
  • Strong analytical skills to derive insights from data.
  • Excellent communication skills for coordinating with various stakeholders.
  • Ability to develop and revise policies and standard operating procedures.

Nice-to-haves

  • Working knowledge of laws, regulations, and standards governing the management of sensitive data (e.g., HIPAA, HITECH, NIST Standards).
