About the position

The IT Data Governance Lead at Selective is a pivotal role responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive data governance policies and procedures that ensure the effective management of the company's data lifecycle. This position requires a strategic thinker who possesses a deep understanding of Data Governance frameworks, Data Privacy regulations, and industry best practices. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with IT, business stakeholders, and Data Stewards to enhance data quality, protection, compliance, and overall value. In this role, you will be tasked with establishing and governing an enterprise data governance implementation roadmap that aligns with the company's objectives and regulatory requirements. You will create a framework to ensure the implementation of data policies, standards, practices, and procedures that guarantee data accuracy, quality, and integrity. Collaboration with IT and business units is essential to ensure that data governance and management practices are integrated into data systems and processes. You will define roles and responsibilities related to data governance, ensuring clear accountability for data stewardship activities. Additionally, you will manage the maintenance of data models, data catalogs, and metadata management to facilitate data quality, consistency, and usability. Working with IT security, you will support data-related risk assessments and compliance activities, ensuring adherence to data privacy laws such as CCPA. Furthermore, you will collaborate with the legal department to establish and maintain data usage guidelines, data sharing agreements, and data-related policies. Driving organizational change management to embed a data governance culture within the company is a key responsibility, as is monitoring and reporting on data governance metrics and KPIs to assess the effectiveness of data management activities. You will facilitate data governance committees and working groups to ensure cross-functional alignment and decision-making, while also staying informed of industry trends and advancements in data governance and management technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive data governance framework and strategy in alignment with company objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Establish and govern an enterprise data governance implementation roadmap, including strategic priorities for the development of information-based capabilities.
  • Create framework to ensure implementation of data policies, standards, practices, and procedures to ensure data accuracy, quality, and integrity.
  • Collaborate with IT and business units to ensure data governance and management practices are followed and integrated into data systems and processes.
  • Define roles and responsibilities related to data governance and ensure clear accountability for data stewardship activities.
  • Manage the process and capabilities for maintenance of data models, data catalog, and metadata management to facilitate data quality, consistency, and usability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Information Management, Computer Science, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a data governance or data management role, preferably within the insurance industry.
  • Strong knowledge of data governance practices, business and technology issues related to the management of enterprise information assets.
  • Experience with data privacy and protection laws, compliance, and risk management is preferred.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with various stakeholders across the organization.
  • Familiarity with data governance and management tools and platforms.
  • Relevant certifications such as Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP), Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP), or similar are a plus.
