About the position

The Data Governance Lead position is a pivotal role within our organization, aimed at spearheading the development and implementation of comprehensive data governance programs across the enterprise. This role is designed for a skilled data governance professional who is adept at designing and evolving data governance frameworks, policies, and standards that align with industry best practices. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with data owners, stewards, and delivery teams to establish robust data quality controls and ensure meticulous documentation of metadata, business definitions, and data lineage. In this capacity, you will be responsible for driving continuous improvement in data glossary and cataloging practices, which are essential for supporting the organization's short-term and long-term data management goals. Your expertise in database design, data modeling, and proficiency with SQL and cloud-based platforms such as Snowflake will be crucial in this role. You will also leverage your experience with leading data governance tools like Informatica and Collibra to coordinate data initiatives across multiple teams, ensuring compliance and adherence to best practices. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and analytical skills, along with a proven track record of developing effective data governance policies and processes. Responsibilities

  • Design and develop enterprise-wide data governance programs, frameworks, and principles based on the latest industry best practices.
  • Evolve existing data governance policies, processes, standards, metrics, and controls, and develop new ones as needed.
  • Support the Data Governance Committee with governance policies, processes, and compliance.
  • Define data quality controls, monitoring, and remediation processes in collaboration with data owners, data stewards, and data delivery teams.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to define data quality requirements and conduct data quality assessments.
  • Ensure documentation of Critical Data Elements (CDEs), including metadata, business definitions, and lineage.
  • Manage the design and implementation of data catalogs, aligning with both short-term and long-term goals.
  • Support enterprise metadata management and related activities.
  • Promote continuous improvement of data glossary and cataloging practices.
  • Work with business units, data stewards, data officers, and technical teams to drive business process and workflow improvements.
  • Assist data stewards and data officers with documenting data flows and data lineage as needed.
  • Contribute to related initiatives as required.

Requirements

  • B.S. Degree in a data-centric field (Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Engineering, or other science field), Information Systems, Information Processing, or Engineering.
  • 7+ years of experience developing and implementing Data Governance policies and processes.
  • Ability to partner and coordinate data initiatives across multiple teams and functions to ensure adherence to best practices and meet data governance objectives.
  • Experience in designing and developing standard database objects such as tables, stored procedures, views, functions, and indexes.
  • Proficiency in database design and experience with data modeling tools like Erwin.
  • Experience with Snowflake or similar SQL-based cloud platforms.
  • Strong SQL skills.
  • Experience with leading vendor tools to support data governance activities (e.g., Informatica, Collibra).
  • Excellent communication and business writing skills, including the ability to draft business requirements.
  • Ability to rapidly comprehend changes to key business processes and understand their impact on the overall Data Governance framework.
  • Flexibility to adjust to multiple demands, shifting priorities, ambiguity, and rapid change.
  • Advanced analytical skills.
  • High level of organization and attention to detail.
  • Self-starter attitude with the ability to work independently.
  • Knowledge of legal, compliance, and regulatory issues impacting data.
  • Experience in retail and commercial banking is strongly preferred.
