About the position

The Data Governance Manager (DGM) at the San Diego Community College District (SDCCD) is a strategic role focused on developing and managing data governance capabilities. The DGM will work closely with the Vice Chancellor of Institutional Innovation and Effectiveness to establish policies and standards for data usage and management, fostering a culture of shared responsibility and proactive problem-solving. This position is essential for advancing SDCCD's data infrastructure and implementing an Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) to enhance data accessibility and analytics, while also integrating ethical AI practices within the data governance framework.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and management of SDCCD's data governance capabilities.
  • Facilitate collaboration with key stakeholders to establish and adhere to data governance policies and standards.
  • Develop processes for addressing issues related to data usage and management.
  • Foster a culture of shared responsibility and proactive problem-solving regarding data governance.
  • Support the integration of AI within the data governance framework.
  • Create a high-quality data infrastructure and advance the implementation of an Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW).
  • Engage diverse stakeholders and build consensus for data governance initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field.
  • Five years of experience in information management, specifically in creating and executing data governance programs.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in Project or Program Management.
  • Strong expertise in planning and executing data governance initiatives.
  • Technical proficiency in data management and analysis.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience with data visualization tools like Power BI or Tableau.
  • Familiarity with cloud services such as Azure or AWS.
  • Passion for AI, big data, and machine learning with a focus on ethical use.
