About the position

The Manager of Data Governance & Metadata at the American Dental Association (ADA) plays a pivotal role in supporting the organization's data governance function. This position is responsible for developing and enforcing data governance standards, procedures, and guidelines that align with the ADA's Data Principles. The manager will oversee the management of metadata for ADA's data assets, ensuring that best practices and tools for metadata management are implemented effectively. This role requires collaboration with data owners, data stewards, and various stakeholders to gather, validate, and maintain metadata, thereby enhancing the overall data governance framework within the organization. In addition to managing metadata, the Manager will provide training and support to staff on data governance practices, ensuring that all team members are equipped with the necessary knowledge to uphold data integrity and compliance. The position demands a strong analytical mindset, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Responsibilities

  • Develop and enforce data governance standards, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Manage metadata for ADA's data assets, ensuring best practices are implemented.
  • Collaborate with data owners, data stewards, and stakeholders to gather and maintain metadata.
  • Provide training and support for metadata management tools and practices.
  • Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations and data security best practices.
  • Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders regarding data governance initiatives.
  • Guide and train data owners and data stewards on governance practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or 5 years of data governance or data management experience, or 9 years of experience in lieu of a degree.
  • 5 years of experience managing or supporting data governance strategies and data management practices.
  • Proficient in data governance/catalog tools (e.g., Collibra, Alation).
  • Familiarity with data management technologies, data modeling, data integration, and data classification concepts.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Understanding of data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA) and data security best practices.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration.
  • Proficient in SQL, Python, or other relevant languages for data manipulation and analysis.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Nice-to-haves

  • Relevant certifications in metadata management or data governance.
  • Knowledge of Non-Invasive Data Governance.
  • Knowledge of data privacy regulations and compliance standards.
  • Experience managing projects using Agile or a similar methodology.
  • Experience with Salesforce.
