About the position

The Data Governance Specialist will lead the development and management of the organization's data governance strategy, fostering a culture of data stewardship. This hybrid role is essential for establishing a comprehensive data governance framework, ensuring data quality, and promoting effective data utilization across all business units.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the establishment and integration of a comprehensive data governance framework across all business units.
  • Advocate for the data governance strategy and encourage widespread adoption within the company.
  • Collaborate with business partners to set data quality benchmarks and performance indicators.
  • Forge strong alliances with both business and technology teams, overseeing the completion of various data initiatives.
  • Develop and manage a detailed data dictionary for your designated data domain.
  • Monitor compliance and track the advancement of data domain projects, ensuring alignment with governance objectives.
  • Provide strategic insights to enhance processes and define organizational roles, helping the company adhere to its data governance policy.
  • Negotiate data ownership agreements between data consumers and producers.
  • Uphold the system of record as the definitive source of truth for data elements, addressing discrepancies with key stakeholders through clear definitions.
  • Support the management, organization, and capture of data.
  • Facilitate open communication about strategies, priorities, and challenges across teams.
  • Collaborate with business units to reinforce data ownership and ensure high-quality standards.
  • Promote a cultural shift towards viewing data as a valuable asset.
  • Engage with various divisions to enhance client value through effective data utilization.
  • Lead or contribute to special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in data governance, data quality, or data management; 5+ years preferred.
  • Proficient in spreadsheet, presentation, and dashboard tools, with a quick adaptability to new technologies and challenges.
  • At least 3 years of experience in the insurance or financial services sector.
  • Credible communicator with both business and IT audiences.
  • Strong understanding of operational workflows, data, and system landscapes.
  • Proactive team player with an ability to thrive in collaborative environments.
  • Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills.

Benefits

  • Salary range of $120k to $150k + bonus
