About the position

The Data Governance Specialist at City National Bank plays a crucial role in executing the data governance program across various business areas. This position involves collaborating with management, data stewards, data owners, and IT teams to implement data controls and governance activities, ensuring compliance with data policies and maintaining the quality of critical data. The specialist will also be responsible for developing strategies, managing documentation, and producing governance dashboards to monitor data governance adoption and achievements.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the development and execution of the Data Governance Strategy.
  • Coordinates with operational and reporting data stewards to create data controls and manage using dashboards.
  • Maintains enterprise data policy for governing data and measures compliance to the data policy for critical data and reports.
  • Maintains ongoing communication with data stewards to ensure timely communication of critical data issues for remediation.
  • Collaborates with data stewards, custodians, and report developers to ensure consistent use of data definitions and authorized data sources.
  • Enlists business unit support for ownership and responsibility for consistent definitions and quality of their data.
  • Collaborates with Data Stewards, Architecture, and IT to prioritize and resolve data sourcing, business rules, and data consumption issues.
  • Ensures operational data stewards define and maintain data definitions and quality rules in the business glossary.
  • Establishes and maintains programs to monitor and measure data governance adoption and achievements.
  • Responsible for maintaining an accurate enterprise critical report library with associated reporting metadata.
  • Documents and maintains data governance activities, logs, and records issues and resolutions.
  • Educates data stewards, data owners, and custodians on governance roles and responsibilities.
  • Serves as a liaison between Business and Functional areas and technology for data-related business requirements.
  • Produces data governance dashboards on a recurring basis.
  • Enrolls data owners, stewards, and custodians in active management of critical data and key issues.
  • Manages documentation and remediation of key data issues.
  • Executes a reliable second-line-of defense process via documented processes and controls.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of experience with providing data governance function and operations.
  • Minimum 5 years of project management experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of consultancy and facilitation skills.
  • Bachelor's Degree preferably in Information Systems or Business Administration.
  • Master's Degree in a related field is strongly desired.
  • Prefer 5 years of banking experience, preferably in regulatory reporting or credit.
  • Knowledge of information access and delivery methods, analytics applications, and data sourcing methods.
  • Understanding of data warehouse, ETL, data cleansing, and architecture.
  • Strong understanding of the FR Y-14M and FR Y-14Q CCAR reporting preferred.
  • Experience with CCAR reporting and/or credit risk analytics preferred.
  • Experience collaborating with reporting, operations, and technology teams.
  • Familiarity with operational and support environment issues.
  • Strong critical thinking ability and problem resolution skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal/written communication skills, and strong project management skills.

  • Experience consulting with senior management.
  • Thorough knowledge and operational skills in Data Governance.
  • Familiarity with personal computers and software packages, including Excel and Word.

Benefits

  • Starting base salary: $101,231 - $172,355 per year.
  • Eligible for bonus and/or commissions.
