About The Position

The Data Specialist at Nelnet is responsible for designing and managing data ingestion pipelines, focusing on ETL processes and reinsurance data. This role involves developing dashboards and conducting analyses to support business insights and financial initiatives, ensuring data is organized and accessible for decision-making.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field is preferred.
• 3-5 years of experience in ETL processes or related field.
• 1-2 years of experience in Data Analysis and reporting.
• Proficient in extracting, transforming, and loading data from flat files, Excel, and other sources into data warehouses.
• Strong understanding of reinsurance concepts and data structures.
• Ability to design and structure data models for reporting and analysis.
• Experienced in building dynamic dashboards and reports using tools like Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms.
• Skilled in performing in-depth data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities for improvement.
• Advanced knowledge of SQL for querying and Python for automating data workflows.
• Adept at identifying data discrepancies or inefficiencies in processes and implementing solutions.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with SQL Server and SSIS processes.
• Strong interpersonal skills for cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain ETL processes using Python and Snowflake to ingest data from various sources.
• Become an expert in the reinsurance data structures and needs.
• Work with the business leadership team to define requirements.
• Build, structure, and maintain a data warehouse to support reporting and analytics needs.
• Design and build analysis and dashboards supporting strategic insights for key stakeholders.
• Optimize data pipelines for performance, ensuring the scalability of solutions.
• Collaborate with finance and accounting teams to identify data needs and address data-related issues.
• Provide support for SQL Server and SSIS processes as needed.
