About the position

Ranker is seeking a Data Journalist (Polling Analyst) to join our team. This is a uniquely hybrid position, combining the roles of Editor and Analyst. As an integral part of our publishing operations, you will be responsible for evaluating the ongoing outcomes of Ranker's highly trafficked votable content, which has garnered over 1.2 billion votes and counting. At Ranker, we strive to be the Gallup Poll for topics that Gallup would never actually poll. Your role will involve owning the strategy and execution of content creation, leveraging your expertise in pop culture and a keen eye for results that may require further investigation by a media-savvy mind. You will not only create engaging content but also analyze the results of the millions of monthly votes on ranker.com. In simple terms, your responsibilities will include understanding Ranker's polling methodologies, identifying trending topics, and assigning relevant angles that align with Ranker's unique format. Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in digital media.
  • Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, communications, film, or equivalent experience.
  • Editorial experience with a focus on pop culture such as entertainment, TV, film, music is a big plus.
  • Training or tangible experience in a polling environment.
  • A solid mind for statistics along with some relevant experience.
  • Passion for all things pop culture-related.
  • Demonstrated track record in story development.
  • Excellent copywriting, editing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in photo editing, web analytics, content management systems, and social publishing.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, socially forward, data-driven digital publishing environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Strong understanding of Facebook audience development and experience in SEO optimization.
  • Experience in writing for short-form video and hosting.
  • Extensive knowledge of upcoming movie and television release slate, as well as general entertainment and celebrity news.
  • Up-to-date with current digital culture trends.
  • Fascination and ideally experience with the intersection between statistics and human nature.
