About the position

The Data Journalist/Research Communications Analyst IV at RAND Corporation is a pivotal role within the Communications and External Affairs department, specifically in the Research Communications Group. This position focuses on enhancing the clarity and accessibility of complex national security research through compelling visual and written narratives. The analyst will collaborate closely with researchers to translate intricate policy research into engaging visual materials that effectively communicate insights to a diverse audience, including policymakers and the general public.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with researchers and RAND leaders to present complex policy research in clear and compelling formats.
• Improve the logic, structure, clarity, and accessibility of primary research documents and summary products.
• Craft and refine policy research narratives and translate them into visual materials.
• Analyze challenging topics and develop visual communication tactics under tight deadlines.
• Create or collaborate on text to support visuals that inform policy and decision-making.
• Ensure projects meet deadlines while maintaining high quality through navigating organizational complexities.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in design, fine art, English, communications, public policy, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
• Minimum of 9 years of related experience, preferably in academic or policy research communications.
• Expert proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
• Superior graphical skills and ability to create compelling visual narratives supported by text.
• Demonstrated understanding of inclusive design best practices and audience analysis skills.
