About the position

American Auto Shield is seeking an experienced leader to join its Data Science and Analytics team. This position will be responsible for developing and executing the organization's strategic use of data analytics, through data analyses, financial projections, analytical experimentation, identification of data sources and sets, and much more. The Senior Data Scientist will work closely with software development and infrastructure teams, as well as providing regular insight to business owners and senior leadership. This role is pivotal in driving data-driven decision-making across the organization, ensuring that data analytics is effectively integrated into the company's strategic initiatives. The Senior Data Scientist will be tasked with building, refining, and innovating large-scale data and analysis models. This includes implementing analytical models by collaborating with software developers and infrastructure teams to ensure that the models are effectively integrated into the company's systems. The role also involves analyzing data for trends and patterns, interpreting data with clear objectives in mind, and identifying relevant data sources and sets to mine. The Senior Data Scientist will suggest new large structured and unstructured datasets and variables that can enhance the organization's analytical capabilities. Additionally, the Senior Data Scientist will envision, design, and execute analytical experiments to help solve problems and capitalize on opportunities. This requires a strong understanding of statistical methods and the ability to apply them in a practical context. The successful candidate will be expected to communicate complex analyses and conclusions to senior business and financial stakeholders in a clear and understandable way, ensuring that insights derived from data are actionable and aligned with the organization's goals.

Responsibilities

  • Build, refine and innovate large-scale data and analysis models
  • Implement analytical models by collaborating with software developers and infrastructure teams
  • Analyze data for trends and patterns, and interpret data with clear objectives in mind
  • Identify relevant data sources and sets to mine, and suggest new large structured and unstructured datasets and variables
  • Envision, design and execute analytical experiments to help solve problems and capitalize on opportunities

Requirements

  • Masters degree (or equivalent) in statistics, applied mathematics, or related discipline
  • 5+ years of experience in data science
  • 2+ years managing technical teams
  • Advanced experience with R or Python (R preferred)
  • Proven mastery with data mining, mathematics, and statistical analysis
  • Advanced experience in pattern recognition and predictive modeling
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a dynamic, research-oriented group that has several concurrent projects
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex analyses and conclusions to senior business and financial stakeholders in a clear and understandable way
  • Demonstrated project management experience
