About the position

The Data Processing Systems Analyst II (Database) position is a full-time permanent role within the Department of Information Technology, specifically in the Applications Division. This role is crucial for designing and developing electronic data processing systems and procedures that cater to the distinct activities of the organization. The analyst will be responsible for analyzing and evaluating operating methods and practices to meet the information needs of various programs and activities. The position requires the development of plans for implementing recommended systems and procedures, ensuring that the organization’s data processing needs are met efficiently and effectively. Under the supervision of the Data Base Administrator (Data Processing Analyst III or IV), the analyst will engage in a variety of database-related systems development tasks. This includes analyzing user requirements, designing systems, modifying existing systems, implementing new solutions, and maintaining current systems. The analyst will work closely with senior analysts to ensure that application and system databases, along with related files, operate efficiently. Additionally, the role involves providing technical recommendations, assistance, and support to other divisions within the department, ensuring that all users have the necessary access and support for the City’s databases. The position is designed for individuals who possess a strong analytical background and are capable of handling complex problems related to data processing. Responsibilities

• Design and develop electronic data processing systems and procedures for various organizational activities.
• Analyze and evaluate operating methods and practices to meet specific program information needs.
• Develop plans for the implementation of recommended systems and procedures.
• Perform database-related systems development tasks including user requirements analysis and systems design.
• Modify, implement, and maintain database systems as required.
• Work with senior analysts to ensure efficient operation of application and system databases.
• Provide technical recommendations and support to other divisions within the department.

Requirements

• Equivalent to graduation from a regionally-accredited college or university with major work in public or business administration, accounting, mathematics, or a related field.
• Two years of experience in the analysis of operating practices, methods, and procedures, including conducting feasibility studies and analyzing systems for electronic data processing.
• Six months of the two years of experience must have been in the specialty area of database management.
• A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or MIS may substitute for six months of experience in operating practices analysis.
• A Master's degree in Computer Science or MIS may substitute for one year of experience in operating practices analysis.
