About the position

The Applied AI & Modelling (AAIM) Division at SAS is seeking a Data Quality Engineer to play a pivotal role in defining, designing, and implementing acquisition strategies for both internal and external data sources. This position is crucial for producing high-quality data sets that will serve as the foundation for creating model packages aimed at addressing complex business problems faced by customers. The Data Quality Engineer will collaborate closely with AAIM leaders and other stakeholders to understand the business's data needs and ensure that the data acquired meets these requirements. In this role, the engineer will be responsible for researching data value-add providers to enhance business strategy and staying updated on data trends. They will socialize data sources among senior team members to assess and recommend their value, as well as vet and lead third-party data acquisition efforts. Effective communication and alignment with both the team and interdependent teams are essential, particularly regarding data costs, capabilities, and limitations. The engineer will also work with SAS business entities, such as Legal, to manage data contracts and secure third-party data assets while addressing governance and security issues related to acquired data, emphasizing responsible data usage. Additionally, the Data Quality Engineer will promote data availability by serving as the central hub of the data library, producing technical documentation and artifacts that are easily consumable by data teams and other engineering teams. They will collaborate with AAIM engineering to implement data acquisition tools and ensure compliance with applicable security policies and processes to support the organization's secure software development goals.

Responsibilities

  • Define, design, and implement acquisition strategies for internal and external data sources.
  • Work closely with AAIM leaders to understand business data needs.
  • Research data value-add providers to enhance business strategy and stay updated on data trends.
  • Socialize data sources among senior team members to assess and recommend their value.
  • Vet and lead third-party data acquisition efforts.
  • Communicate and gain alignment on data costs, capabilities, and limitations with stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with SAS business entities on data contracts and acquisition of third-party data assets.
  • Address governance and security issues related to acquired data, focusing on responsible data usage.
  • Promote data availability by serving as the central hub of the data library.
  • Produce technical documentation and artifacts for data teams and engineering teams.
  • Collaborate with AAIM engineering to implement data acquisition tools.
  • Ensure compliance with security policies and processes for secure software development.

Requirements

  • Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Computational Finance, Statistics, Information Systems or related field.
  • 5 years' experience as a data engineer with a growth mindset to research and influence others.
  • An equivalent combination of related education, training, and experience may be considered.

Nice-to-haves

  • Competency in public cloud platforms such as Google, Azure, or AWS.
  • Some knowledge of Data Bricks/Snowflake.
  • Understanding of Data Governance concepts including GDPR and PoLP.
