About the position

Saint Peter's University is dedicated to fostering student success both academically and professionally. We are in search of faculty members who are scholar-practitioners—professionals actively engaged in their fields who are eager to mentor the next generation of professionals. The Data Science Adjunct position involves teaching graduate students on a part-time basis in various specialized areas, including Big Data and Data Management, Data Mining, Machine Learning, Data Visualization, SQL, Predictive Analytics, and Financial Modeling. Familiarity with Python and SAS is essential, while knowledge of Tableau, IBM Watson, and Excel is preferred. Additionally, the role includes supervising Capstone Consulting Engagements, which are critical for students' practical learning experiences. In this role, the adjunct lecturer will actively engage students through frequent interactions that motivate them to succeed, demonstrating genuine enthusiasm for their learning. The instructor will guide students in collaborative projects and problem-based learning, providing constructive feedback regularly and utilizing rubrics for effective assessment of student work. It is crucial to demonstrate current subject-matter expertise and help students connect concepts across their academic programs. The adjunct will also be responsible for developing and managing the class syllabus, ensuring it meets departmental and college standards, planning lectures for both online and in-class discussions, grading assignments, and advising students on their academic success. Staying updated on innovations and changes within the field of Data Science is also a key responsibility.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching graduate students in areas such as Big Data and Data Management, Data Mining, Machine Learning, Data Visualization, SQL, Predictive Analytics, and Financial Modeling.
  • Supervising Capstone Consulting Engagements.
  • Engaging students through frequent interaction to motivate them and convey enthusiasm for their learning.
  • Guiding students in active collaboration and application of their learning in problem- and project-based learning demonstrations.
  • Providing regular constructive feedback and utilizing rubrics for assessment of student work.
  • Demonstrating relevant and current subject-matter expertise and helping students connect concepts across their academic program.
  • Providing feedback to the program chair on possible curricular improvements.
  • Developing and managing the class syllabus to meet department and college standards.
  • Planning and creating lectures for both online and in-class discussions and assignments.
  • Grading assigned papers, quizzes, and exams.
  • Assessing grades based on participation, performance in class, assignments, and examinations.
  • Advising students on how to be successful in class.
  • Staying updated on innovations and changes within the course field.

Requirements

  • A terminal degree (PhD, DBA, etc.) preferred from an accredited institution related to Data Science/Business Analytics.
  • A Master's degree is required.
  • Professional experience in the industry is necessary.
  • Higher education teaching experience is preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Tableau, IBM Watson, and Excel.

Benefits

  • Salary range of $750 - $1,000 per credit hour.
