About the position

The Analyst position at Moelis & Company involves collaborating within the Data Science & Analytics team to develop data-driven insights that enhance business decision-making. The role focuses on leveraging data assets to solve complex business challenges, applying machine learning techniques, and delivering impactful solutions for both internal teams and external clients. The successful candidate will work closely with stakeholders to identify opportunities for data utilization and will engage in end-to-end data science projects, from data curation to model production.

Responsibilities

  • Work with stakeholders as an internal consultant to identify opportunities for leveraging data to solve business challenges.
  • Partner with business and technology teams to evolve data science and machine learning capabilities.
  • Develop analyses and predictive models responsive to project requirements.
  • Engage in end-to-end data science projects from data curation to model production.
  • Apply technical knowledge of corporate finance, statistics, and programming to real-world business problems.
  • Define strategies and parameters for predictive models and data mining projects, ensuring data integrity.
  • Combine machine learning techniques with unique data assets to optimize business decisions.
  • Develop tools to leverage machine learning models for business use cases.
  • Research and implement custom statistical models and machine learning algorithms.
  • Identify valuable data sources that can improve results.

Requirements

  • 1 year of work experience, preferably in Banking, Consulting, or similar environments.
  • Undergraduate or Master's degree in data science, math, statistics, quantitative/computational finance, engineering, computer science, or other quantitative fields.
  • Expertise in programming languages such as Python and SQL for data analysis and querying.
  • Excellent analytical, quantitative, and critical problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt quickly and deliver high-quality results under tight timelines.
  • Strong interest or previous experience in corporate finance or investment banking.
  • Knowledge of machine learning/data science theory, techniques, and tools; experience with Natural Language Processing (NLP) is a plus.
  • Understanding of Large Language Model capabilities and structures.
  • Interest in emerging technologies such as AI.
  • Strong communication skills to present findings to a non-technical audience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with data visualizations (e.g., Python-Dash, R-Shiny, Tableau, etc.)
