About the position

The Data Science and Engineering Lead at the Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) is a pivotal role responsible for directing the data strategy and leading the development of data system architecture for a significant program integrated with the Air Force. This position involves overseeing a team of professionals, collaborating closely with the Air Force's architecture leads, and serving as the primary liaison between SDL and the Air Force. The role focuses on solving complex data science and engineering challenges that are crucial for national defense across various domains.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Data Architecture and Analytics Team Lead on the Air Force Sentinel Program.
  • Lead a diverse team in developing, integrating, and implementing information-security-aware technical data solutions.
  • Apply methodologies to identify, analyze, and synthesize data sources with high confidence.
  • Provide leadership and technical guidance on data strategy and architectural product development.
  • Engage in engineering, concept planning, design, and development of data systems in a secure hybrid multi-cloud environment.
  • Identify and resolve complex technical problems related to data engineering, storage, management, and security.
  • Lead technical reviews of contractor deliverables to ensure adherence to requirements and governance.
  • Monitor and evaluate team plans and activities, developing corrective action plans as needed.
  • Provide guidance on data strategy and analytical methodologies, mentoring team members.
  • Engage with stakeholders to ensure successful planning, coordination, and execution of technical activities.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and retain a DoD Top Secret security clearance.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in engineering, data science, data engineering, or data analytics.
  • Experience with big data topics such as data modeling and data management.
  • Strong technical skills to identify gaps in contractor deliverables.
  • Leadership and mentoring skills to guide team members.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of SysML (Systems Modeling Language).
  • Advanced degree in a relevant data science discipline.
  • Experience working in an ACAT I program office.
  • Active DoD Top Security clearance.
