About the position

The Data Science Engineer will support the Dean of Faculty in enhancing the academic and research mission within a quasi-university environment. This role involves providing expert guidance on data science technologies and strategies, ensuring their integration into academic and research activities while adhering to military standards.

Responsibilities

  • Assess current and recommend future data science and data science-related cybersecurity technologies, methods, considerations, and uses for academics and research.
  • Advise the Dean of Faculty on data science academic and research policy, strategy, and architectural matters.
  • Act as the Dean's data science coach and liaison to the faculty, facilitating broad data curriculum and research experimentation, adoption, integration, and implementation.
  • Deliver draft assessments and recommendations quarterly and at specified periods.
  • Aid the Dean of Faculty in drafting an academic and research data strategy within the first 4 months, ensuring alignment with institutional and federal policy and goals.
  • Integrate university and research center best practices and lessons learned.
  • Assist in updating and maintaining the data strategy throughout the period of performance.
  • Provide training and coaching seminars and collaborations with departments at least monthly.
  • Assist in the experimentation, implementation, and adoption of data-centered technologies and methods into the classroom, lab, and research activities.
  • Recommend technology configurations, cybersecurity implementations and mitigations, and cybersecurity approvals.
  • Serve as a liaison between departments and other mission elements, facilitating cross-discipline integration and use of data technologies and methodologies.

Requirements

  • Ability to work in a high operations tempo environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe applications.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working with data science technologies, including data analysis, management, infrastructure, and cybersecurity.
  • Experience as a Data architect and in developing data policy and strategy for a large institution.
  • Minimum of a Master's degree in data sciences with an emphasis on data management, integration with AI, ML, infrastructure, and cybersecurity.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a university and/or research environment and implementing data analysis for AI in various disciplines.
  • Experience in data infrastructure design for AI use and training members in data technologies.
