About the position

The Data Scientist and Associate Project Manager of Heat Equity Research is responsible for strategically developing, managing, and executing projects aimed at reducing heat exposure for vulnerable populations. This role focuses on enhancing community resilience to climate change through actionable data, policy planning, and research. Key projects include shade master planning and policies for managing heat in schools, contributing to equitable heat governance and planning.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage LCI's Heat Equity projects.
  • Execute research initiatives to reduce heat exposure for vulnerable populations.
  • Collaborate on policy planning and actionable data strategies.
  • Conduct program evaluation and manage grants and contracts.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders including senior administration and policymakers.
  • Prepare analytical communication materials such as grant proposals and technical reports.
  • Lead meetings and presentations with visually appealing materials.

Requirements

  • Experience with project management and program evaluation.
  • Experience managing grants and contracts.
  • At least two years of experience in climate adaptation and resilience.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective communication.
  • Advanced skills in GIS and spatial analysis.
  • Proficiency in Excel, Python, and other analytical software.
  • Excellent writing skills for various communication materials.
  • Strong oral communication skills and presentation experience.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to independently set priorities and handle fluctuating workloads.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of extreme heat science or policy.
  • PhD in relevant fields such as public policy or environmental studies.
