About the position

The Data Scientist and Associate Project Manager of Heat Equity Research at UCLA's Luskin Center for Innovation is responsible for leading and managing projects aimed at reducing heat exposure for vulnerable populations. This role involves strategic development and execution of research initiatives that focus on policy, planning, and actionable data to enhance community resilience against climate change-induced heat. The position requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including civic partners and communities, to promote environmental equity and effective governance.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage LCI's Heat Equity projects.
  • Execute research initiatives focused on reducing heat exposure for vulnerable populations.
  • Collaborate with civic partners and communities to inform and use research.
  • Engage in policy and planning related to heat governance and resilience.
  • Conduct spatial analysis and utilize GIS for project development.
  • Prepare communication materials including grant proposals and technical reports.
  • Lead meetings and presentations with stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Experience with project management and program evaluation.
  • Experience managing grants and contracts.
  • At least two years of experience in climate adaptation and resilience.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective communication with diverse stakeholders.
  • Advanced skills in GIS and spatial analysis.
  • Proficiency in Excel, Python, and other analytical software.
  • Excellent writing skills for various communication materials.
  • Strong oral communication skills and presentation experience.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to independently set priorities and handle fluctuating workloads.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of extreme heat science or policy.
  • PhD in relevant fields such as public policy or environmental studies.
