About the position

The Data Scientist position at Amazon Web Services (AWS) focuses on leveraging machine learning and AI technologies to assist U.S. Federal agencies in implementing innovative cloud computing solutions. The role involves collaborating with customers to understand their data challenges and designing tailored solutions that utilize advanced NLP and generative AI capabilities. The position requires a strong background in data science, machine learning, and excellent communication skills to effectively engage with stakeholders and drive project success.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with AI/ML scientists and architects to research, design, develop, and evaluate cutting-edge generative AI solutions.
  • Interact with customers to understand business problems and aid in the implementation of generative AI solutions.
  • Deliver briefings and deep dive sessions to customers, guiding them on adoption patterns and paths to production.
  • Provide expertise in generative AI and document processing infrastructure, design, implementation, and optimization.
  • Maintain domain knowledge in generative AI, NLP, and NLU.
  • Architect and build large-scale solutions that are secure, maintainable, scalable, reliable, performant, and cost-effective.
  • Identify and prepare metrics and reports to demonstrate the value of solutions to customers.
  • Identify, mitigate, and communicate risks related to solutions and service constraints.
  • Participate in mentoring internal and customer team members on AI/ML transformations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and 5 years of experience or Master's degree and 2 years of experience in data science.
  • 5+ years of data scientist experience including 5+ years of programming in a scripting language (e.g., Python, JavaScript).
  • 3+ years of experience deploying, operating, and maintaining machine learning models.
  • 3+ years of experience building models for business applications.
  • Experience in algorithms and data structures, parsing, numerical optimization, data mining, parallel and distributed computing, high-performance computing, neural deep learning methods, and/or machine learning.

Nice-to-haves

  • PhD or Master's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, operations research, or a highly quantitative field.
  • Hands-on experience building models with deep learning frameworks like PyTorch, TensorFlow, or JAX.
  • Practical experience in solving complex problems in an applied environment.
