About the position

BluePath Labs is seeking a temporary, mid-level Data Scientist with expertise in AI and ML to join our team at the Army Cyber Institute (ACI) in West Point, NY. This assignment is projected to run from approximately January 13, 2025, to February 23, 2025, offering a unique opportunity to contribute to projects with direct operational relevance. The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to excel in collaborative environments, working alongside leading Army researchers and U.S. Government partners on cutting-edge programs. This position is available for an immediate start.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the writing of scholarly manuscripts, research projects, white papers, and proposals.
  • Make positive scholarly contributions that are of interest to the USMA Principal Investigator (PI), which include AI/ML techniques such as deep neural networks, foundation models (LLMs, VLMs, etc.), reinforcement learning, evolutionary computation, etc.
  • Experience with AI/ML frameworks (e.g., Sklearn, TensorFlow, Keras, pyTorch).
  • Responsible for conducting advanced research and analyses using techniques from DS, AI, and ML.
  • Work both alone and as part of a team with other researchers, developers, analysts, and stakeholders to deliver high-quality data-centric, decision-driven insights, analytics, algorithms, and models.
  • Perform Data Engineering (DE) and exploratory data analysis, including munging, cleaning, and labeling on both structured and unstructured data.
  • Design, develop, implement, and evaluate statistical AI/ML algorithms/models for various tasks using multiple data types (text, tabular, time series, image, logs, etc.).
  • Comfortable working with on-premises and cloud-native environments for the discovery, extraction, and analysis of patterns/trends to gather, process, and derive valuable insights needed to build and deliver AI/ML-enabled capabilities.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Computer Science (CS), statistics, mathematics, Data Science (DS), Operations Research (OR), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Electrical Engineering (EE), Industrial & Systems Engineering (ISE), or a related technical field.
  • 3-5 years professional experience in data science work, including academic work.
  • Proficiency in Python.
  • Experience designing and querying relational (RDB) and non-relational databases (NRDB) (e.g., SQL, NoSQL).
  • History of published research (e.g., thesis, publications, presentations, conferences, posters)
  • U.S. citizenship.
  • Ability to obtain a DoD Secret clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with Ubuntu Linux and virtualization technologies (e.g., Docker).
  • Applied research experience with vectorized data, time-series, etc.
  • Applied research experience with R, Julia, Matlab, Rust, etc.
  • Knowledge of computer and network security principles, datasets, and tools.
  • Knowledge of AI/ML application tasks such as computer vision, Natural Language Processing (NLP), search and optimization, and knowledge representation/reasoning.
  • Published peer-reviewed papers and programming code repositories.

Benefits

  • The salary range for this position will be $80,000-$120,000, commensurate with experience.
  • This position is a temporary role and does not include eligibility for benefits.
