About the position

The Data Scientist I position at AFMC involves providing statistical support for quality improvement projects, surveys, and HEDIS needs. The role includes data analysis, reporting, and ensuring compliance with established protocols. The position requires collaboration with internal and external clients and supports the organization's mission through teamwork and accountability.

Responsibilities

  • Act as second analyst on assigned projects.
  • Develop and write suitable data sampling frames to meet project goals and objectives.
  • Download/export data from large data sets/databases and generate SAS code to edit data for accuracy and completeness.
  • Conduct analyses using SAS statistical package or geospatial software.
  • Transfer data into formats conducive to appropriate analyses.
  • Interpret, summarize, and document results from statistical analyses.
  • Produce graphs, charts, and other visual representations of data.
  • Prepare summary reports of analysis for presentation to internal and external clients.
  • Assist with presentations to be given at local, state, or national conferences.
  • Ensure projects follow AFMC and/or certified survey protocol in terms of abstract design, data collection, statistical analysis, and contractual requirements.
  • Write or update project methodologies as needed to accomplish project goals and objectives.
  • Assist with analysis plans and detailed specifications for analysis files, consistency checks, tables, and figures.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external clients.
  • Assist with data entry, data verification, verification of results and database maintenance as required or directed.
  • Assist with report production, adhering to format, content, and style guidelines, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and quality.
  • Assist with workshops, seminars and staff training as needed.
  • Follow AFMC, state and federal protocols regarding data confidentiality/security and HIPAA compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, mathematics, statistics, or related field.
  • One (1) year experience in statistical analysis including writing SAS programs, data manipulation, model estimation and model evaluation.
  • Intermediate skill level with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
  • Advanced skill level with SAS.
  • Ability to apply statistical and mathematical concepts.
  • Strong understanding of quantitative methods.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Creativity and customer service orientation.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and attention to detail.
  • Flexibility and ability to work collaboratively and independently.
  • Initiative and ability to multitask.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Professionalism and ability to read, interpret and apply laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Time management skills and knowledge of medical terminology.

Nice-to-haves
