The Data Scientist II position at Caterpillar involves working as an independent contributor within multi-person analytic teams. Responsibilities

  • Work as an independent contributor in multi-person analytic teams.
  • Utilize quantitative analytic methods and data management techniques.
  • Make decisions on routine, medium risk issues affecting project teams and internal customers.
  • Mentor and develop junior information scientists.
  • Facilitate the construction and usage of the CAT Data Platform using data from various domains.
  • Communicate effectively with business teams to understand their needs for model improvement or development.
  • Perform data manipulation in a cloud environment using Snowflake and AWS services.
  • Use Hadoop and Spark for big data processing on AWS to optimize time and cost.
  • Conduct data cleansing and quality improvement using SQL and Python.
  • Build models using Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Machine Learning techniques.
  • Maintain a data pipeline integrating CAT customer, asset, and contact data.
  • Report digital platform metrics through PowerBI dashboards.
  • Collaborate with software engineering teams for proof of concept works and productionization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
  • Two years of professional experience as a Data Engineer, Data Analyst, or related occupation.
  • Experience with Python programming.
  • Proficiency in SQL and AWS.
  • Experience in creating Machine Learning models.
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis techniques.
  • Experience in creating data visualizations using BI tools.
  • Familiarity with Natural Language Processing (NLP).
  • Experience working with software engineering teams.
