About the position

The Data Scientist (Machine Learning) position at Steelcase involves leveraging data science and artificial intelligence to solve complex business problems. The role requires innovative thinking, analytical skills, and effective communication to work as an internal consultant with various business partners. The successful candidate will design, develop, and deliver data-driven solutions that enhance decision-making processes critical to business success.

Responsibilities

  • Act as an internal consultant to conceive, design, develop, and deliver solutions to complex business problems using data science or AI.
  • Frame business problems as data problems to be solved with data and algorithms.
  • Communicate methods and solutions effectively to diverse audiences at various organizational levels.
  • Collaborate on multi-disciplinary Agile teams to ensure clarity of product/project demands and quality of delivery.
  • Prepare data for analysis, including data cleansing, harmonization, augmentation, and exploratory data analysis.
  • Work with various data types, including structured and unstructured data.
  • Apply operations research and management science methods such as mathematical modeling and optimization.
  • Utilize statistical methods including distributions, sampling, and design of experiments.
  • Conduct time series analysis and forecasting using various models.
  • Implement machine learning techniques including supervised, unsupervised, and reinforcement learning.
  • Train and deploy predictive models, monitoring performance and retraining as necessary.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree in a quantitative or technical field such as Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, Predictive Analytics, or Operations Research is highly preferred.
  • Prior experience in data science, AI, or related fields is required.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R for data science work.
  • Experience with distributed storage and compute environments like Databricks or Spark.
  • Knowledge of optimization tools and data visualization applications.
