About the position

As a Data Scientist Manager at BillionToOne, you will lead a team in analyzing complex genetic data and developing models to enhance genetic testing products. This role involves collaboration with cross-functional teams to provide data-driven insights that inform strategic decisions, requiring a blend of technical expertise, leadership skills, and a strong understanding of scientific research and business fundamentals.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a team of data scientists and analysts, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment.
  • Develop and implement data strategies that support the company's genetic testing products and services for bioinformatics and commercial data goals.
  • Perform advanced data manipulation and analysis using R or Python, ensuring high-quality and reproducible results.
  • Retrieve, clean, and integrate data from disparate sources such as SQL databases, JSON, CSV, and XLSX files.
  • Conduct complex data analyses to inform business decisions, focusing on key metrics like revenue, profit, customer acquisition cost, lifetime value, and cohort analysis.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product, marketing, finance, and operations, to provide data-driven insights and recommendations.
  • Communicate complex data findings in a clear and actionable manner to stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Stay current with the latest research and advancements in data science and genetic testing.

Requirements

  • Master's or PhD in biological sciences, computer science, statistics, mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
  • Proficiency in data manipulation and analysis using R or Python.
  • Strong knowledge of SQL for data retrieval and management.
  • Ability to retrieve and munge data from disparate sources and formats (e.g., SQL, JSON, CSV, XLSX).
  • Understanding of business fundamentals such as revenue, profit, customer acquisition cost, lifetime value, and cohort analysis.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong leadership and experience managing technical teams and mentoring and fostering employee growth and development.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to producing high-quality, accurate work.
