About the position

Lockheed Martin is seeking a Data Scientist to join their team in Santa Barbara, CA. This role involves utilizing advanced techniques in image processing, machine learning, and data analysis to enhance product performance and process efficiency. The Data Scientist will collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop predictive models, perform exploratory data analysis, and create impactful visualizations to support data-driven decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • Perform image processing and analysis using advanced techniques in object detection, classification, and segmentation.
  • Develop and refine algorithms to enhance accuracy and performance.
  • Design and train machine learning models for identifying and categorizing objects within complex datasets.
  • Optimize models for deployment in production environments.
  • Analyze correlations between test data and process data to improve product performance.
  • Develop predictive models leveraging process and test data to forecast outcomes and optimize workflows.
  • Perform exploratory data analysis (EDA) to uncover patterns and trends in data.
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and product teams to integrate data science solutions.
  • Develop effective visualizations and dashboards to present findings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical field, or 7+ years of professional experience in data science, machine learning, or statistical analysis.
  • Proficiency in Python, R, or similar programming languages.
  • Knowledge of statistical modeling, hypothesis testing, and predictive analytics.
  • Experience with machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Scikit-learn.
  • Proficiency in SQL and working with relational databases.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience analyzing and interpreting large datasets.
  • Experience with image processing techniques and tools like OpenCV or PIL.
  • Familiarity with cloud computing platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Experience with data visualization tools like Tableau, Power BI, Matplotlib, or Seaborn.
  • Knowledge of distributed computing frameworks such as Spark or Dask.
  • Experience with natural language processing (NLP) or text mining.
  • Familiarity with GPU-based computing and parallel programming.
