About the position

The University of Chicago is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to curate and analyze continental-scale geospatial data. This role involves running high-performance code, performing data analysis, and assisting in research projects that support various programs and initiatives. The position requires collaboration with faculty and staff, preparation of results for publication, and maintenance of complex datasets using best practices in machine learning and statistical inference.

Responsibilities

  • Curate and update continental-scale geospatial data.
  • Run high-performance code and perform data analysis.
  • Assist in analyzing data to extract applicable information.
  • Perform research projects providing analysis for various programs and initiatives.
  • Prepare results for publication, grants, and online visualizations and presentations.
  • Assist staff or faculty with data manipulation, statistical applications, programming, analysis, and modeling.
  • Collect, organize, and analyze information from internal and external data sources.
  • Maintain and analyze statistical models using machine learning and statistical inference best practices.
  • Respond to requests and engage IT resources as needed.
  • Clean, transform, merge, and match large and complex datasets.
  • Plan resources to collect, organize, and analyze information from various data systems.
  • Perform other related work as needed.

Requirements

  • Masters degree in engineering or biomedical engineering.
  • Proficient with Python, Git, SQL, C/C++, Matlab, and Lua.
  • Skilled in setting up statistical process control.
  • Skilled at training colleagues in using internal SQL-based software tools.
