About the position

As a Senior Data Scientist at Starbucks Coffee Company, you will leverage your expertise in statistical and machine learning techniques to build models that effectively address various business needs. Your role will involve extracting data from diverse sources and conducting thorough exploratory data analysis, which includes data cleansing, massaging, and aggregation. You will collaborate cross-functionally with other data scientists, statisticians, and business analysts to define business problems and implement innovative solutions. Your insights will play a crucial role in business decision-making, guiding options for next steps, testing, or research opportunities. You will also be responsible for developing processes that automate and scale insights, ensuring that the data-driven recommendations you provide are actionable and impactful. Working closely with Business Managers and Architects, you will identify business requirements and expected outcomes, fostering a collaborative environment between data scientists, engineers, and leadership teams to align on technical roadmaps for innovation. In this position, you will drive the creation of final insights packages and recommendations, leading presentations to communicate your findings effectively. Additionally, you will utilize advanced geospatial analysis tools to assess market potential, optimize site selection, and provide data-driven insights that enhance customer experience and drive sales growth in alignment with Starbucks' overall business objectives. This role allows for telecommuting up to 40% per week, providing flexibility in your work schedule. You will be expected to work full-time, Monday through Friday, totaling 40 hours per week. The pay range for this position is between $183,581 and $211,600 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Use statistical and machine learning techniques to build models that address business needs.
  • Extract data from various data sources and perform exploratory data analysis, cleansing, massaging, and aggregating data.
  • Work cross-functionally with other data scientists, statisticians, and business analysts to define business problems and implement solutions.
  • Connect insights to business decision-making options and next steps testing or research opportunities.
  • Develop processes to automate and scale insights.
  • Work with Business Managers and Architects to identify business requirements and expected outcomes.
  • Establish and foster close collaboration between data and decision scientists, engineers, business, and leadership teams to align on technical roadmaps for innovation.
  • Drive creation of final insights package and recommendations; lead presentations.
  • Leverage advanced geospatial analysis tools to assess market potential, optimize site selection, and provide data-driven insights.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Management, Engineering, or a related field, and 3 years of experience in a data science or related role; or Bachelor's degree in the same fields with 5 years of post-bachelor's, progressive experience in a data science or related role.
  • 3 years of experience in performing exploratory data analysis to understand relationships and opportunities to influence outcomes.
  • 3 years of experience working with predictive and statistical modeling, machine learning in all phases of the modeling pipeline.
  • 3 years of experience in building and analyzing complex data sets from multiple data sources (both internally and externally).
  • 3 years of experience in designing, developing, and evaluating data transformations to solve specific business problems.
  • 3 years of experience in machine learning (Classification Regression, Unsupervised Learning, Semi Supervised learning), selecting and engineering features, and building, evaluating, and optimizing algorithms.
  • 3 years of experience in programming using Python or R.
  • 3 years of experience with Cloud platforms, including Azure, AWS, or GCP.
  • 3 years of experience in data manipulation skills including cleaning and managing data with SQL or ETL.
  • 2 years of experience working with distributed data processing frameworks, including Spark or Data Bricks, and languages, including Java, PySpark, or Scala.
  • Retail and eCommerce experience.
