About the position

As a Data Scientist at FM Global, you will play a crucial role in translating business needs into actionable analytics and interpreting these analytics into practical business applications. This position is designed for individuals who are eager to innovate and explore new technologies, particularly in the realm of artificial intelligence and machine learning. You will be tasked with developing and applying statistical methods, AI, and deep learning techniques to address various business challenges, particularly in loss prevention. You will be part of a dynamic and culturally diverse team of data and analytics professionals, collaborating with multiple departments such as operations, innovation, business technology transformation, underwriting, and engineering. This role emphasizes continuous learning, innovation, and collaboration, allowing you to not only contribute to FM Global's mission of loss prevention but also to grow your career and expand your impact within the organization. Your responsibilities will include planning, conducting, and advising on the development and evaluation of large-scale real-world problems using AI and machine learning, all while working with minimal supervision. The projects you undertake will be both interesting and ambitious, leveraging your statistical expertise to advance FM Global's goals.

Responsibilities

  • Translate business needs into analytics and interpret analytics into business applications.
  • Develop and apply statistics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and deep learning to various business problems in loss prevention.
  • Innovate and explore new technologies to build solutions for FM Global.
  • Plan, conduct, and advise on the development and evaluation of real-world, large-scale problems using AI/machine learning with minimal supervision.
  • Collaborate with multiple departments including operations, innovation, business technology transformation, underwriting, and engineering.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Statistics or Biostatistics (required) with 2+ years of industry experience preferred or a Master's degree with 5+ years of industry experience considered.
  • 5+ years of experience in data processing, statistical analysis, and modeling using tools such as Python and R.
  • 3+ years of experience processing large datasets using SQL.
  • Advanced knowledge and working experience in Generalized Linear Models, Model Regularization, Probability Distributions, Hypothesis testing, Statistical Inference, Machine Learning, Simulation, Experiment Design, and Non-Parametric Statistics.
  • Experience as the lead role in full-cycle data science projects.
  • Working experience in risk management and/or property insurance is strongly preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with advanced machine learning techniques such as Random Forest, Clustering, Gradient Descent, and Gradient Boosting.
