About the position

The Data Scientist (Visualization) position within the Office of the Inspector General at the Department of Energy focuses on providing technical expertise in data visualization and analytics. The role involves leading efforts to make data accessible and usable, supporting innovative research and analysis related to the Department's operations, investigations, inspections, and audits.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop effective data visualizations using Power Business Intelligence (BI).
  • Provide analytical support to identify appropriate data and methodological approaches for projects aimed at identifying fraud, waste, and abuse.
  • Develop, schedule, execute, and manage data pipelines using Azure Synapse for ELT/ETL processes.
  • Lead the development of data governance documentation and processes related to data strategy and visualizations.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Degree in Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science, or a related field at least at the baccalaureate level.
  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-12 level in the Federal service, including creating and implementing data collection and analysis tools, utilizing software applications like PowerBI and DAX, and collaborating with stakeholders.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with additional data analytics tools and programming languages.
  • Familiarity with federal employment processes and regulations.
