About The Position

This position is located in the National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS), Chief of Staff (COS), with one vacancy in Silver Spring, MD. As a Data Scientist, you will perform duties related to the management, upkeep, improvement, and analysis of human resource data, conducting data mining and big data analytics to improve NOAA's mission. You will also build complex predictive models and machine-learning algorithms to understand employee behavior, serve as a technical expert, and manage project progress.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
  • A background investigation will be required.
  • Must meet the Basic Requirements of a degree in Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or a related field.
  • Specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal Service is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with data management and statistical analysis.
  • Experience in creating infographics, visualizations, or reports conveying insights from data analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Lead operational assignments related to the management, upkeep, improvement, and analysis of human resource data.
  • Conduct data mining and big data analytics to improve NOAA's mission.
  • Leverage project-tracking data to provide operational insights to NOAA's diverse workforce.
  • Conduct analysis in programming or statistical software suites such as R, Python, SAS, SPSS, STATA, Tableau, PowerBI, etc.
  • Build complex predictive models and machine-learning algorithms to understand current and future employee behavior.
  • Partner with outside vendors on the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to drive stronger people insights.
  • Provide authoritative instruction and guidance to lower-level data scientists.
  • Consult with and provide expert-level advice to customers and NESDIS personnel on data use and interpretation.
  • Lead and monitor the creation of visually appealing presentations for senior leadership.
  • Apply project management skills to manage work and track progress of scientific studies.
