About the position

The Data Science position at Kemper is integral to the organization's competitive advantage and success. This role involves building and developing analytical solutions, particularly focusing on updating existing solutions to meet the evolving needs of the business. The position emphasizes independent design and development of analytics processes that can be utilized across the organization, ensuring effective communication of project progress and challenges.

Responsibilities

• Independently designs and develops analytical solutions.
• Develops and automates processes that can be deployed throughout the organization to solve recurring analytics needs.
• Communicates project progress and challenges to the working team.
• Develops database, technical, and business knowledge.

Requirements

• Graduate degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, or other STEM field with 2-4 years of experience working in a data science/analytics environment.
• PhD in Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, or other STEM field with related industry experience preferred.
• Proficient in Python programming language (scikit-learn, pandas, numpy, scipy, matplotlib, etc.).
• Proficiency and experience with several modeling techniques such as generalized linear models, decision trees, ensemble learning, regularized models (ridge/lasso/nets), clustering, and neural networks.
• Some experience with natural language processing is preferred.
• Prior experience working with imbalanced datasets and AWS is a plus.
• Ability to work with various data formats including relational databases, delimited text files, data frames, and JSONs.
• Excellent overall communication skills, particularly the ability to translate technical results for wide audiences.
