About the position

Longenecker & Associates (L&A) is seeking a Data Scientist in Oak Ridge, TN, to manage and provide solutions that positively impact the organization. The role involves mentoring team members and contributing to critical missions across the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) complex. The Data Scientist will develop performance measures, conduct data analysis, and communicate findings effectively to stakeholders, while also supporting various programs related to lessons learned and human performance improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement performance measures through a defined metric development process.
  • Conduct self-directed data analysis to determine and predict trends and provide management recommendations.
  • Identify leading and lagging indicators to depict organizational health accurately.
  • Make predictions using data visualizations and user-centric interactive dashboards.
  • Provide subject matter expertise on the evolution of metric platforms.
  • Communicate analysis effectively with customers and stakeholders, both in writing and orally.
  • Provide expertise in the features and benefits of Tableau's products.
  • Conduct training on modern approaches to data science and provide use cases to management.
  • Lead or participate in ad-hoc onsite analysis for urgent management reporting.
  • Help build and maintain a metric dictionary of important performance measures.
  • Manage the Lessons Learned Program and evaluate internal and external submissions for quality and content.
  • Support Human Performance Improvement initiatives and participate in related evaluations and training.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in STEM with a minimum of 3 years of relevant data analytics experience, or a Master's degree with at least 1 year of relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of data analytics including statistics, decision sciences, machine learning, and predictive analytics.
  • Experience in data mining, trend analysis, and visualization.
  • Ability to identify flaws in source data and validate aggregated data.
  • Ability to work in a diverse work environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Business Analytics/STEM with at least 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience using analytic tools such as Excel, Tableau, SQL, Python, and R.
  • Project management skills and technical skills across various technologies.
  • Knowledge of databases, warehouses, and business intelligence systems.
