The Data Security Lead Engineer at Circle is responsible for designing, implementing, and enhancing data security controls to protect sensitive data across the company's infrastructure. The position is integral to maintaining the security posture of Circle as it expands in the financial technology sector.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and enhance data security controls to protect sensitive data across Circle's infrastructure.
• Oversee the operation of data discovery solutions to identify and classify sensitive data across all systems.
• Collaborate with engineering, TechOps, and IT teams to integrate security and data protection controls into workflows.
• Identify and assess data security risks and vulnerabilities, developing effective mitigation strategies.
• Ensure compliance with data protection regulations such as GDPR and CCPA, assisting in audits and reporting.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in information security with a focus on data protection and control architecture.
• Experience with data discovery and scanning tools for data classification and governance.
• Strong understanding of security frameworks (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001) and hands-on expertise with security technologies.
• Proven experience engaging cross-functional teams to integrate data security across the organization.
• Understanding of data protection regulations and experience with compliance-driven security controls.
• Ability to analyze risks, identify vulnerabilities, and recommend security controls.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills to translate complex security concepts.
