About the position

The Data Steward - Research Analysis Specialist Senior position at the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency is responsible for overseeing data stewardship and analysis to support the goals and strategies of the Resource Management and Assistant Division (RMAD). This role involves leading program evaluations, managing data-related work, and ensuring data accessibility and trustworthiness for decision-making. The position also serves as a primary contact for specific datasets, facilitating communication between stakeholders and advocating for proper data management practices.

Responsibilities

• Lead and facilitate complex agency and division-wide program evaluations and data management.
• Support project analysis through statistical and visual data analysis development and execution.
• Oversee data-related work for RMAD, ensuring data is accessible and trustworthy for decision-making.
• Advocate for appropriate data use and management, ensuring compliance with established policies and standards.
• Serve as a primary point of contact for specific datasets, communicating data management decisions to stakeholders.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Statistics, or related field with knowledge of environmental sciences, data science, or GIS.
• Three years of experience managing data, querying databases, and performing quantitative analysis.
• Ability to conduct advanced data analyses and manipulate large datasets using various tools.
• Technical writing skills to present ideas effectively to diverse audiences.
• Strong human relation and communication skills to convey complex technical information clearly.
• Planning and organizational skills to meet priorities and monitor work.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience teaching, training, or mentoring in data analysis and management.
• Experience developing and implementing data management plans.
• Expertise in data science software such as Tableau, SQL, ArcGIS, Python, or R.
• Experience managing or analyzing environmental or pollution-related data.
• Knowledge of environmental justice principles and tools.
